Custom flags, made the way you need them

One appliqué flag for a boardroom or five hundred printed flags for a dealer group. Head's Flags has sewn, embroidered and printed custom flags for businesses, schools, teams, krewes, churches and the military for over forty years.

Four ways to make a flag

Full-color digital print

Photographic detail, unlimited colors, no minimum order. Dye-sublimated into outdoor polyester so the color goes through the fabric rather than sitting on it. Single-reverse (mirror on the back) or double-sided with a blockout liner.

Screen print

Bold spot colors for bulk orders. Cost per flag drops sharply with quantity, which makes it the choice for dealer groups, franchises and events that need hundreds of the same flag.

Sewn appliqué

Each color is a separate piece of nylon, cut and sewn onto the field.

Embroidered

Rayon or nylon flags with machine or hand embroidery for ceremonial and indoor display: conference rooms, lobbies, headquarters, presentation flags. Usually finished with pole hem and gold fringe.

Shapes, sizes and finishing

Rectangular flags from 12×18 inches to stadium size, burgees and swallowtails, pennants, guidons, house banners with a pole sleeve, and street-pole banners with top and bottom pockets. Standard finishing is a canvas header with brass grommets; we also do pole hems, rope and toggle, snap hooks, D-rings and fringe.

Who orders custom flags from us

  • Businesses flying a logo flag under the U.S. flag
  • HOAs and developers: community flags and entrance banners
  • Schools, colleges and student sections, including crowd surfer banners
  • Sports teams, leagues and booster clubs
  • Gasparilla krewes, yacht clubs and marinas (burgees and private signals)
  • Churches, fraternal orders, Shriners and lodges
  • Military units, guidons and ceremonial flags (see military flags)
  • Families: crests, name flags, wedding and memorial flags

How ordering works

  1. Send artwork and a size. A vector file is ideal, but a sketch, a photo of a logo or a description is fine. We redraw art for production for a small fee, and can provide the finished art to you for future use.
  2. We quote and proof. You get a price and a production proof showing colors, size and construction.
  3. You approve, we make it. Typical turnaround is about one week from proof approval; rush is sometimes available.
  4. Pick up or ship. Collect at Henderson Blvd or we ship anywhere.

Who we make flags for around Tampa Bay

Most weeks the sewing tables have something going to a school in Brandon, a church in Riverview, a yacht club on the water in Clearwater or St. Petersburg, and a krewe somewhere in South Tampa. We have made flags for customers in Lakeland, Brooksville, Sarasota, Bradenton, Wesley Chapel, New Port Richey and Orlando, and for buyers well outside Florida.

Artwork and proofs happen by email wherever you are, so distance makes no difference to the flag. Finished flags ship anywhere in the country, or you can collect them at the shop on Henderson Blvd. For an order large enough to be worth a truck, we will bring it out. See our service areas.

Common questions about custom flags

How much does a custom flag cost?
Size, construction method and quantity set the price. One sewn appliqué flag for a boardroom and five hundred printed flags for a dealer group are different jobs, and screen printing falls sharply per flag as the quantity climbs. Send the artwork, the size and the quantity and we will quote it. Request a quote.
Is there a minimum order for a custom flag?
Not on full-color digital printing. We will make you one flag. Screen printing is for bulk runs, where the cost per flag drops with quantity, and sewn appliqué and embroidered flags are often ordered as a single piece anyway.
How long does a custom flag take to make?
Typical turnaround is about one week from proof approval. Rush is sometimes available, so tell us the date you need it when you ask for the quote. Collect the flag at the shop on Henderson Blvd or we ship anywhere in the country.
What artwork do you need?
A vector file is ideal, but a sketch, a photo of a logo or a description is fine. We redraw art for production for a small fee and can give you the finished art for your own use afterward. Before anything is cut or printed you get a production proof showing colors, size and construction.
Should I order a printed flag or a sewn one?
Digital printing handles photographic detail and unlimited colors and has no minimum, so it suits logos with gradients or fine detail. Sewn appliqué cuts each color from separate nylon and sews it onto the field, which is what most people picture when they think of a flag and what suits bold, simple designs. Embroidered flags are for indoor and ceremonial display, usually finished with a pole hem and gold fringe.
How long will a custom flag last flying outdoors in Florida?
A flag flown outdoors every day typically lasts 6 to 9 months before the colors fade. Heat, UV and afternoon storms all take their toll, so a spot that gets some shade helps, and bringing the flag in ahead of bad weather helps more. If it is a U.S. flag, you can drop the worn one at the shop for proper retirement.
