Flagpole installation done right, from 20 feet to over 100

Head's Flags has been setting flagpoles in Florida ground since 1984. We size the pole, check the site, pull the permit, set it in concrete and hand you a pole that stays plumb through hurricane season.

A flagpole is the one thing on your property that has to survive every storm standing straight. It is also the first thing a visitor sees. Both are reasons to have it installed by a flag company rather than a handyman, and Head's Flags has installed more of them around Tampa Bay than anyone.

Residential flagpoles (20 feet and up)

For a home, the right pole is usually a 20 to 25 foot aluminum pole, set in a ground sleeve and sized for a 3×5 or 4×6 flag. We help you choose the height and flag size for your lot, then handle the installation from picking the spot to setting the pole.

Commercial, institutional and municipal (up to 100+ feet)

Car dealerships, corporate campuses, schools, churches, HOA entrances, government buildings, stadiums and military installations need engineered poles and a crew that has done it before. We manage the whole job:

  • Site evaluation and wind-load requirements for your county
  • Pole selection: aluminum or steel, internal or external halyard, cone-tapered or sectional
  • Foundation design, sleeve and concrete
  • Coordination of cranes and heavy equipment for tall poles
  • Help with local permits and zoning
  • Lighting, finials, trucks, cleats and flag sizing

Aluminum or steel?

Aluminum is lightweight, does not corrode and comes in brushed satin, clear anodized, bronze or powder-coat finishes. An anodized pole never needs painting. It is the right choice for nearly every residential and most commercial installations.

Steel is for exceptional heights and exceptional wind. Painted or galvanized steel poles from 50 to well over 100 feet are anchored with steel base plates and anchor bolts in engineered concrete foundations.

How we install a flagpole

  1. Site check. We look for overhead lines, roofs and trees before anyone digs. A flagpole belongs in open air where the flag can fly freely.
  2. Sleeve and concrete. The pole sits inside a rust-proof ground sleeve on a gravel bed, surrounded by concrete that cures fully before the pole goes up.
  3. Set and check. We set the pole in the sleeve and make sure it is straight and secure.

What size flag?

A flag should be roughly a quarter of the pole height: a 3×5 on a 20-foot pole, a 4×6 on 25 feet, a 5×8 on 30 to 35 feet, and 8×12 or larger above 50 feet. We stock every one of those sizes in made-in-USA nylon and heavy weight polyester.

Where we install

Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Wesley Chapel, New Port Richey, Lakeland, Bradenton, Brooksville, Sarasota and Orlando are regular stops. For commercial and institutional work we travel statewide. See commercial flagpoles across Florida and our service areas.

Frequently asked

How much does flagpole installation cost?
It depends on height, material, soil and access. A residential aluminum pole with installation is a very different job from an 80-foot steel pole that needs a crane. Send us the address and the height you have in mind and we will give you a written estimate, usually within a business day.
Do I need a permit?
Often for commercial poles and sometimes for residential ones, depending on the municipality and height. We know the local rules and help with the paperwork.
Will it survive a hurricane?
Poles are rated by wind speed with a given flag size. We size the pole and foundation for the site, and we recommend taking the flag down when a named storm is coming. The pole is built to stay.
Do you accept government purchase cards?
Yes. We have worked with the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County and MacDill Air Force Base for years and are used to municipal and federal purchasing.
