Flagpole repair and service

Rope snapped? Flag stuck at the top? Pole leaning after a storm? Head's Flags fixes flagpoles of every height, whether or not we installed them.

Lift raised to the top of a tall flagpole for service

Most flagpole problems are small and get more expensive if they wait. Oftentimes a frayed halyard can be replaced from the ground. If the rope breaks and comes all the way off, we have to bring a bucket truck to reach the top of the pole. A pole that leans a few degrees after a storm can turn into a foundation job. We carry the parts on the truck and fix the common failures in one visit.

What we repair

Halyards and rope

Replacement of external halyards, internal cable and rope systems, and the cleats and snap hooks that go with them. If the rope has broken and come off the pole, we re-rope it from a bucket truck.

Trucks and pulleys

Seized, broken or missing trucks (the pulley assembly at the top), stationary and revolving, for aluminum, steel and fiberglass poles.

Finials and ornaments

Gold balls, eagles and other finials replaced or rethreaded.

Straightening and re-setting

Poles that have shifted after wind or ground settlement, ground sleeves, foundation repair and full replacement when the pole is beyond saving.

Lighting

Flagpole lights so the flag can fly overnight in keeping with the Flag Code.

Internal halyard poles

Commercial poles with the rope inside the shaft (a winch or a locking door at the base) need the right tools and someone who has serviced them before. We service internal-halyard poles on schools, dealerships, banks and government buildings across Tampa Bay.

Storm damage

After a named storm we get more calls for leaning poles and lost flags than anything else. If the pole is intact but out of plumb, it can often be re-set. If a section is bent, it usually cannot, and we will tell you so.

Where we service flagpoles

Tampa, Brandon, Riverview, Wesley Chapel, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, New Port Richey, Lakeland, Bradenton, Sarasota, Brooksville and Orlando. Further afield for commercial accounts. See service areas.

Common questions about flagpole repair

Do you repair flagpoles you did not install?
Yes, any brand and any height, whether or not the pole came from us. Most flagpole problems are small and get more expensive the longer they wait, so it is worth calling early. We carry the common parts on the truck and fix the usual failures in one visit.
How much does flagpole repair cost?
It depends on what failed and how we have to reach it. A frayed halyard can often be replaced from the ground, a rope that has broken and come off the top needs a bucket truck, and a pole that has shifted at the base can turn into foundation work. Send a photo with the pole height and what it is doing; most repairs can be quoted from that. Request service.
The rope snapped and my flag is stuck at the top. Can you fix it?
Yes. If the halyard is only frayed we can usually replace it from the ground. If it has broken and come off the pulley at the top, we bring a bucket truck and re-rope the pole. Halyard, cleats and snap hooks ride on the truck, so this is normally one visit.
My flagpole is leaning after a hurricane. Can it be straightened?
After a hurricane or named storm, leaning poles and lost flags are the calls we get most. If the pole is intact and only out of plumb it can often be re-set, along with the ground sleeve or the foundation if that is what moved. If a section is bent it usually cannot be saved, and we will tell you so rather than sell you a repair that will not hold.
Can you service an internal halyard pole?
Yes. Commercial poles with the rope inside the shaft, worked by a winch or a locking door at the base, need the right tools and someone who has opened one before. We service internal-halyard poles on schools, dealerships, banks and government buildings across Tampa Bay.
Can you add a light so the flag can stay up overnight?
Yes. We fit flagpole lighting so the flag can fly after dark in keeping with the Flag Code, which asks that a flag flown at night be properly illuminated. Mention it when you book the repair and we can look at both on the same visit.
