Veterans Day is the one date every year when a faded or frayed flag is noticed. It is also, with the Fourth of July, the busiest week at the shop, so the time to check the flag and the pole is October, not the morning of the eleventh.
The checklist
- A new American flag. Nylon for most poles, heavy weight polyester for tall or windy ones. Every size from 12×18 inches to 30×60 feet, made in the USA. In stock.
- Branch flags. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard, plus POW/MIA, for a display of all services.
- A pole that works. If the halyard is frayed or the truck sticks, the flag will be stuck at the wrong height on the day. Repair takes one visit.
- Bunting and fans for storefronts, stages and reviewing stands.
- Stick flags by the gross for parades, ceremonies, schools and cemeteries.
- A tribute banner. "Honoring Our Veterans" for the entrance, or a custom banner with the names of the veterans in your company, church or neighborhood. See custom banners.
- Indoor ceremonial flags with pole hem, gold fringe and floor stand for the event hall.
Half-staff on Veterans Day?
No. Veterans Day honors living and deceased veterans and the flag flies at full staff all day. Memorial Day is the half-staff day, until noon. If you need the procedure, it is in our flag etiquette guide.
Retire the old one properly
When the new flag goes up, bring the old one to the shop. We see worn flags retired with dignity, at no charge. See flag retirement.
For businesses and organizations
Dealerships, banks, hotels and offices order matching flag sets for every location; VFW and American Legion posts, schools and churches order flags, bunting and banners for ceremonies. Government purchase cards are accepted. Order the week before the holiday and we will have it ready.
America's 250th
2026 is the United States Semiquincentennial. If your organization is planning a celebration, commemorative flags, bunting and custom banners for the anniversary are available alongside the Veterans Day order.
